1905. No Binding. Single sheet, one side, 20 x 12.5 cm.TLS with handwritten addition on headed notepaper, '47 Portland Place, W.' Dated 2 January 1905. "My dear General [handwritten], I write in reply to your letter of Christmas Eve, that it will give Lady Roberts and me great pleasure to see you at lunch at 1.30 either on Friday or Saturday. Please let me know which day will be most convenient for you. [Handwritten addition] Please excuse a type written letter, and with every good wish of the season to Mrs Blake and you. Believe me, yours sincerely, Roberts". The letter is for General Blake. Roberts (1832-1914) won the VC during the Indian Mutiny, and continued to serve in the region including Afghanistan and India through to 1893. He commanded the forces in South Africa in 1899 and retired in 1904. General Blake is likely to be Henry William Blake (1815-1908). Very Good. Item #017819
