The original 1601 edition of De La Sagesse: Livres Trois by Pierre Charron (1541-1603) was first translated into English by Samson Lennard in 1612. This is a later (1670) edition. Charron was heavily influenced by his contemporary Montaigne, and his work on moral philosophy develops Montaigne's ideas. He was attacked for purported atheism and is regarded as a founder of modern secularism. Very good copy of a scarce work important for its connection to Montaigne's thought. Very Good. Item #017290
