Clement I, Pope during the first century AD, was considered the first Apostolic Father of the Catholic Church, and known for his epistles to the church at Corinth. This letter is perhaps the earliest Christian document written after the New Testament. The letter offers an insight to what the early Christian church valued and how it was affected by the Roman Church. This printing is paired with the second epistle of Clement, although this sermon was probably written by some else in the second century. A rare issue of the works (the first edition 1669), revised by John Fell (1625-1686), Bishop of Oxford. Fell was a prominent theologian and translator and was instrumental in the building of Wren's Sheldonian Theatre, where he placed the Oxford University Press, hence the publication imprint of the Sheldonian. A very good copy of this nice early edition in the original vellum. Very Good. Item #017316
