Bernard le Bovier de Fontenelle (1657-1757) was an Enlightenment author and philosopher writing particularly on the emerging sciences. He particularly came to fame with this influential work on the plurality of worlds and the nature of the universe. He was noted for his popular style, exemplified in his support for Descartes, attributed his long life to eating strawberries, and had a lunar crater named after him in 1935. The Plurality of the Worlds was first published in 1686, giving a popular exposition of the works and thinking of Descartes and Galileo. A good copy of this scarce and important Enlightenment work. Good. Item #017320
