Bartlet was a medical man who published this work following on the publications of Gibson (whom he wants to correct) and Bracken, the two fathers of English farriery. It provides practical advice on surgery and pharmacology in the treatment of diseases and ailments encountered by farriers. He also published 'The Gentleman's Farriery' on horse diseases in 1753, which went into many editions and is less scarce.
