NZ content includes an article on Captain James Ross on his return from his exploration of Antarctica in the years 1841-43. It gives an account of his major discoveries and observations from his ships the Erebus and Terror. It includes an engraving of "Portrait of Captain James Ross' in very heroic pose. Article on continuing the information on New Zealand, with a description of the Nelson region using extract from letters from settlers, and an engraving of "View in Nelson District in New Zealand" showing tree felled for land clearance. Another article is on the settlement of New Plymouth, including an engraving of "View in the New Plymouth Settlement, New Zealand", showing boats and boatsheds at the shore. Account of a meeting in London of the Zoological Society where "Professor Owen then read a communication on a remarkable and newly-discovered bird called Danornis [sic], a genus of a giant terrestrial bird, which has now, like the Dodo in Mauritius, become extinct ion the island of New Zealand." There is a further follow-up article on the reconstruction of the skeleton of the moa, here called the 'Danger-bird' or Dinorius [sic], with an engraving which provide comparisons with the bones of the ostrich, cassowary and kiwi.
