Francis was also famous for swimming the Bristol Channel, despite being partially disabled. 14 x 9 cm. Walter (Skipper) Francis (1886-?) was a welsh singer and song-writer who, after his swimming exploits, finally settled in Auckland, NZ, and led a colourful life there in swimming sports and music.
