1859. No Binding. ALS from the Duke of Argyll. Dated Dec 23/59. The 8th Duke was this year Lord Privy Seal in the second Palmerston administration, continuing a varied career of politics and natural history, particularly ornithology, glaciation and as an opponent of Darwin, promoting theistic evolution. The addressee of the letter is indecipherable, but he writes saying he has written to Lord Palmerston recommending an application from Geo. Wilson's mother and sister for a pension. Wilson is possibly the Scottish chemist and writer who died in 1859. 23 x 18 cm. Very Good. Item #019217
