Signature of William Nelson
1832. No Binding. Signature of William Nelson, 1st Earl Nelson and Duke of Bronte: 'London July twenty first 1832, Miss Gervaise, Cecil, Aughnocloy, Ireland. Nelson & Bronte.' Includes a postmark "Free, 21 JY 21 1832" William Nelson was the elder brother and heir of Lord Horatio Nelson, who had inherited the title of Duke of Bronte from his brother. Horatio Nelson was granted the Sicilian Dukedom by King Ferdinand II of Sicily in gratitude for having saving the kingdom from Napolean. His brother William, apart from inheriting the Dukedom was himself created Earl Nelson in recognition of Horatio's achievements. Cecil, Auchnocloy was the seat of the Rev Francis Gervaise, and the addressee is presumably a member of that family. 11.5 x 7.5 cm. Very Good. Item #019884
