Josiah Martin. No Binding. B&W photograph of a group of Maori, with children standing in a hot pool, and adults standing behind them. The image is set in the Whakawerawera village in the thermal area of Rotorua. On the reverse is an early photograph of Dunedin in winter, taken from behind the city looking down to the harbour. Martin was an internationally recognised photographer known for his topographical and ethnological photographs, and a pioneer in wet-plate photography. Mounted on original card.
