Prince Edward of Saxe-Weimar hand-written letter
1890. No Binding. Autographed hand-written on Royal Hospital, Dublin letterhead. Three sides of a folded sheet, 18 x 11.5 cm. Dated 3.5.90. The letter is addressed to 'My dear Davies' and initially refers to the death of Lady Bessborough. Prince Edward had a long career in the British army fighting in Crimea, and ending up as Commander of the army in Ireland in 1885, retiring in 1890, the year of the letter. The letter includes his comments on the army in Ireland at the time.He was promoted to Field Marshall after he retired. Lady Bessborough was of the Ponsonby and Bessborough families, dying in Ireland in 1890. An letter with interesting comments on the British army activities in Ireland. Very Good. Item #020532
