Hall was a widely travelled British Navy commander, who notably commanded the H M Brig Lyra, part of the Amherst embassy to Peking of 1816. Prior to that he had explored Java, and during the Amherst embassy, explored the Korean coast and the Loo Choo Islands (Okinawa). During the voyage back to England, Hall and Amherst interviewed Napolean on St Helena. His accounts of his voyages proved popular, going through many editions. A very good complete copy. Very Good.
