Published in Amsterdam where the author resided from around the mid1680s, from the first Paris edition of 1677-79. An early example of a Utopian romance, referring back to Plato, More and Bacon and their works on Utopia. Australia is used here as a convenient, 'unknown' continent, Allais citing other authors on what was currently known on Australia. A very good copy of a popular work of the late 17th C. Very Good.
