A Clasp For 'The Few' : a Biographical Account of New Zealand Pilots and Aircrew Who Flew Operationally with RAF Fighter Command During the Battle of Britain 10th July to 31st October 1940.

Auckland: Kenneth G. Wynn, 1981. Second Impression. 8vo. Paperback. When Kenneth Wynn first published his listing of NZ ".pilots and aircrew who flew operationally with RAF Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain." demand was such that this second impression of 1000 was issued in December 1981. His book has since become a sought after record of those NZ men who qualified for the BoB "clasp." This included 129 NZers. Of that number 20 were lost during the "Battle" and 40 later in the war. Pilots made up 75 per cent of the NZ aircrew involved and their contribution in terms of numbers was exceeded only by the UK and Poland. The author began gathering material for the book in 1977 and his biographal and service detail of each man is accompanied by a photograph. An exceedingly valuable record of NZ's part in what has been described as one of the decisive battles of WWII. Foreword by Air Commodore Alan Deere. Second impression of December 1981, 470 pages including four appendices, b/w frontis of 1939- 5 Star with BoB clasp, b/w portraits throughout. Pictorial card covers are VG with few marks A notable reference book. Very Good. Item #020881
